4/21/18 Out of the Darkness Campus Walk Sponsored by Ammerman Campus Honors Club

AFSPlogoOut of the Darkness Campus Walk
Sponsored by Ammerman Campus Honors Club

Saturday, April 21, 2018 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM

TO:                  The College Community

FROM:           Dr. Thomas S. Tyson, College Associate Dean for Mental Health Services

SUBJECT:     Out of the Darkness Campus Walk

The College will be hosting its second annual Out of the Darkness Campus Walk on Saturday, April 21st from 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on the Ammerman Campus in Selden.  This event, which seeks to increase awareness about suicide and raise funds to fight it, will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).  Join a quarter of a million people from hundreds of cities across all 50 states to raise awareness and funds that will save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.

The campus walk is being sponsored by the Ammerman Campus Honors Club.  Anyone interested in further information on the walk can stop by tables in the Babylon Student Center from 11:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday or Wednesday, April 17th or 18th.

Funds raised through this event allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.  We are looking for supporters in the college community who understand the growing concern about suicidal behavior and are willing to do something to bolster efforts to prevent suicide.

For more information, please go online and visit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) or their Out of the Darkness Walks-New York sites.

Thank you in advance for considering providing support to this important initiative.

at Suffolk County Community College
Training Tomorrow’s Technicians Today

7:00 pm–8:00 pm Networking Reception
8:00 pm–10:00 pm Dinner and Awards Ceremony
Hilton Long Island-Huntington
598 Broad Hollow Rd, Melville, NY 11747

For over thirty years, Suffolk County Community College has been the destination for students seeking to make a difference in today’s exciting multi-trillion dollar automotive industry. Partnering with some of the most recognized automotive brands, Suffolk County Community College offers an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Automotive Technology on its Ammerman Campus in Selden, New York. It is a NATEF (National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation) certified program designed to prepare students for career success in this global industry. Elite partnerships with General Motors, Fiat-Chrysler-Dodge, Honda, Subaru, Toyota, BMW and their Long Island–based dealers and supporting businesses have led hundreds of students to enroll in this program.

Today’s automobiles are equipped with complex computer and electronic systems. To succeed, technicians need to be highly trained, skilled professionals who are competent in math, science and computer technology. Communication and management skills are equally important for success in the field.

The brand-specific training programs offered at Suffolk are:
• BMW Service Technician Education Program (STEP)
• Fiat-Chrysler Mopar Career Automotive Program (CAP-Local)
• General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program (ASEP)
• Honda Professional Automotive Career Training (PACT) program
• Subaru University
• Toyota Technician Training & Education Network (T-TEN) program
• General Automotive ATAC I & ATAC II programs

“Being raised in a single parent household where my father struggled working double overtimes always made it hard for me to stay motivated, determined and focused on what mattered most, my education. With this scholarship, you have not only given me more opportunities for the future, but you have shown me that there are people that are recognizing my accomplishments and hard work that I’ve been putting in. You’ve also inspired me to work even harder going forward.” – Brentwood, NY Suffolk County Community College Future Alumni

Holiday Elves Wishlist for children of Suffolk County Community College students

TO:                 The College Community

FROM:            Lorianne Lueders-Yanotti, Director of Student Support Services

SUBJECT:     Holiday Elves

The Director of the Student Support Services Program has identified over 65 children of current students attending our campuses who will have a happier holiday season with the support of the college community.

Each year, the Student Support Services program coordinates an outreach effort for these families.  We hope you will adopt a child or your office will adopt a family to help provide a season of joyous memories to those in financial need.   Among other items, our elves work to provide families with toys as well as coats, shoes, and gloves for the winter months.  We can also accept store gift cards.

If you are interested in participating, we ask that you contact us at 631-451-4693 as soon as possible.  The best time to call is Monday through Friday, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.  We will then match you with a child or family and will provide you with some gift suggestions.

The college community has always generously supported this program.  We hope we can count on your kindness once again.  Thank you and Happy Holidays!

Below, please find the child/children “wish list” items.  When dropping off the items, please list the letter of your family, age and gender of each child on the bag or box.  If you have any questions, please call 631-451-4693.

Thank you,

Jeff Lapouble
