Become and Organ Donor, Save Lives at Suffolk County Community College

A New Yorker dies every 18 hours while awaiting a life-saving organ transplant. Now you can help change this troubling statistic. One organ donor can save as many as eight lives! Rally together and save lives.

Our college was contacted by Suffolk County Legislator Steve Stern who told us about LiveOnNY.

Now LiveOnNY is hosting Organ Donor Enrollment Days on each of Suffolk County Community College’s campuses during Spirit Week with one goal in mind: enroll as many willing New Yorkers as possible as live-saving organ donors.

Studies show that 9 out of 10 New Yorkers support organ donation, but only 25% are registered.

Representatives, from LiveOnNY will be at each of our campuses on the following dates during Spirit Week to enroll students, faculty and staff:

Ammerman Campus:
10/5 and 10/9
in the lobby of the Babylon Student Center
10:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m.

Michael J. Grant Campus:
10/5 and 10/9
in Captree Commons
10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Eastern Campus:
10/6 in the Peconic Building Lobby
10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

“Get Covered Grad” – New Partnership between State University of New York and NY State of Health

New York State of Health logo

“Get Covered Grad” is a new partnership between The State University of New York and NY State of Health (NYSOH), the State’s official health plan Marketplace, to help recent graduates learn about the Special Enrollment Period (SEP) they may qualify for.

Upon graduation, many graduates may find themselves without health insurance coverage or the ability to remain on their parent’s policy. SEPs allow uninsured individuals who experience certain qualifying life events to enroll for health coverage through NYSOH outside of the annual open enrollment period.

To help increase awareness of these SEPs and the availability of low cost plans through the marketplace, NYSOH has developed a resource kit for campus administrations to use in helping students plan for the future. The College Toolkit includes:

“As our graduates embark on life after college, it is imperative that we inform them of the many programs and services that New York State has available to ensure a seamless and productive transition…”
“SUNY is proud to partner with New York State of Health on this important initiative to increase awareness among SUNY graduates regarding their options for health insurance.”- Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher
