The Long Island Philosophical Society, a regional organization with members and participants from around the world has awarded Huntington’s Dr. Lowell Kleiman, academic chair of Suffolk County Community College’s Philosophy Department its Outstanding Chair of The Year award.
The Long Island Philosophical Society was founded in the mid-1960’s, started by philosophers at Adelphi University, Hofstra and Stony Brook, eventually including all Long Island colleges and Suffolk County Community College.
Since its inception the organization has grown from local, to regional, and national, and today boasts of members and participants from all corners of the academic world.
“I am just one of many who contributed to the success of this professional and ongoing group, and proud to have been a part of this development and prouder still to be recognized by this award,” Dr. Kleiman said.
Kleiman has been at Suffolk County Community College since 1968.
“The experience of teaching and contributing to Suffolk Community College as Academic Chair of Philosophy/Women’s Studies/Humanities has been a life-time adventure with rewards to myself, my faculty, and students,” Kleiman said.
