TO:                  The College Community

FROM:            Dr. Christopher J. Adams, Vice President for Student Affairs

SUBJECT:      LGBTQ+ History Month

October is LGBTQ+ History Month and National Coming Out Day will be on October 11th. We are offering faculty a selection of LGBTQ+-themed videos for your classes. These videos, created, by the SCCC Media Department, include educational videos on what it means to be gay, gender fluid and “coming out.” These videos feature our own students, faculty, and staff. They are available at:

“Being Gay…” http://scccmedia.weebly.com/it-gets-better.html

“Coming Out…” http://scccmedia.weebly.com/it-gets-better.html

“Gender Fluidity” http://scccmedia.weebly.com/gender-fluidity.html

You can also check out LGBTQ+ resources at the College’s libraries: http://libguides.sunysuffolk.edu/LGBTQ

In addition, we have rolled out a new LGBTQ-themed campaign to raise awareness about community. Be on the lookout for the “I Stand for LGBTQ+ = Rights,” featuring students and other members of the college community.

Our newly formed LGBTQ+ Task Force aims to promote initiatives for all members of the college community. Stay tuned for more upcoming events and campaigns.
