SUBJECT: Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship
The College is pleased to announce that we have been invited to submit nominations for the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship program. This program, which is administered nationally by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, was implemented in an effort to assist community college students of exceptional promise to reach their full potential through education. The Foundation focuses on students who are excelling academically and have significant unmet financial need. The Foundation supports high-achieving community college students who have completed two years of study as full-time students and plan to attend a four-year college or university starting in the fall 2016 semester. The Foundation will award approximately 85 scholarships through this program in spring, 2016. The maximum award amount is $40,000 per year toward the student’s total cost of attending a baccalaureate university or college.
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation has established the criteria under which nominees must be selected. Nominees must:
- be a current student with sophomore status by December 31, 2015, or a recent graduate (within the last 5 years)
- have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above
- plan to transfer to a 4-year college or university to begin studies in the following fall
- demonstrate unmet financial need
Selection criteria focus on exceptional academic ability and achievements, financial need, persistence, leadership, and a desire to help others.
Students may apply directly to the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation for consideration. The application period is open now until December 15, 2015. Selected applicants are notified in April. To learn more about the Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship and to complete an application, visit www.jkcf.org.
Please feel free to publicize this opportunity to students.
