SUBJECT: College to Participate in DIG PINK Fundraiser to Fight Breast Cancer
In conjunction with the Athletic Department’s annual Dig Pink fundraiser, the College’s Office of Student Affairs has declared Thursday October 15th, as the First Annual Pink Out. On that day, the entire college community is encouraged to wear pink.
Prior to the event, tee-shirts will be on sale for $10.00 each, at the Registrar’s offices on all three of our campuses, and at the Athletic Department offices on the Ammerman and Michael J. Grant campuses, where you can also see sample shirts in various sizes on display. Proceeds from the sale of the tee-shirts will go to the Side-Out Foundation for Breast Cancer Awareness. The Side-Out Foundation was established to unite players and coaches to work toward the common goal of advancing breast cancer awareness, education and patient services. Last year, our event raised $10,150—the largest amount of any NJCAA institution for the fourth year in a row, bringing our five-year total to over $32,000.
You can also place tee-shirt orders via e-mail to Joe Kosina, Athletics Compliance Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org. Cash and checks will be accepted as payment, with checks made payable to the Suffolk Community College Association. Please use the attached form to place your tee-shirt order in this manner. It is important to note that orders must be placed by September 21st.
There are numerous other ways the college community can support the October 15th effort:
- The women’s soccer team will play a game at 4:00 p.m. against their biggest rival, Nassau Community College at the Ammerman Campus field.
- The women’s volleyball team will play a game at 7:00 p.m., also against Nassau Community College, in the Brookhaven Gymnasium on the Ammerman Campus.
- As part of the evening’s fundraising on October 15th, the Athletic Department will also hold a gift basket raffle.
For more information on the event, please contact Joe Kosina either through e-mail or by phone at (631) 451-4881.
