The scholarship is for up to $40,000 per year and is intended to cover a significant share of the student’s educational expenses – including tuition, living expenses, books and required fees – for the final two to three years necessary to achieve a bachelor’s degree. Awards vary by individual, based on the cost of tuition as well as other grants or scholarships he or she may receive.
Steven, who lives in Patchogue, is a student in Suffolk’s Honors Program with a nearly perfect grade point average of 3.9, serves as a Student Government Association Senator and as the Community Service Club’s event coordinator. He is majoring in liberal arts and general studies and hopes to earn a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Psychology. Steven aspires to a career in human services.

McKay, adding “ and as one of only seven students from four different institutions in New York State Steven has also demonstrated he is one of the best our State has to offer. We are extremely proud of Steven and his accomplishments.”
This award is a testament to Steven’s hard work and dedication here at Suffolk County Community College,” said College Board of Trustees vice chair and chairwoman of the Student Success Committee, Theresa Sanders. “Congratulations to Steven for an achievement that makes the entire college proud.”
The Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship program helps community college students, with exceptional promise, reach their full potential through education. The scholarship is administered by the JKC Foundation, and focuses on students who are excelling academically and have significant unmet financial need. The Foundation supports high-achieving community college students who have completed two years of study as full- time students and plan to attend a four-year college or university beginning with the fall 2015 semester.
