Suffolk County Community College’s Eckstein Elected President of National Engineers Group

Peter Eckstein

Peter Eckstein, an adjunct professor of physics at Suffolk County Community College, has been elected 2016 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE-USA) president. He will serve as president-elect in 2015 with president Jim Jefferies and past-president Dr. Gary Blank.

IEEE-USA serves the public good and promotes the careers and public policy interests of more than 200,000 engineering, computing and technology professionals who are U.S. members of IEEE. Its mission is to recommend policies and implement programs that serve and benefit its members, the profession and the public in professional areas of ethical, economic, legislative, social and technology policy concern.

Eckstein received his B.S. degree in electrical technology from the New York Institute of Technology in 1967. He earned an M.S. in applied physics from Adelphi University in 1971 and an M.S. in management engineering in 1974. Eckstein lives in Smithtown.

Eckstein is retired from Northrop Grumman Corp., where he held various engineering managerial positions of increasing responsibility. His primary role was to design and develop support equipment for Navy electronic warfare system avionics. He has taught at Suffolk County Community College since 1981.
