On Thursday, October 16th, Suffolk County Community College’s women’s volleyball and women’s soccer teams will participate in the 5th Annual Dig Pink event to raise funds supporting breast cancer education programs and research efforts. Last year’s event raised over $8,500 and our teams have raised over $22,000 for this cause over the course of the past five years.
There are numerous ways the college community can support this effort.
- The women’s soccer team will play a game at 4:00 p.m. against their biggest rival, Nassau Community College at the Ammerman Campus field.
- The women’s volleyball team will play a game at 7:00 p.m., also against Nassau Community College in the Brookhaven Gymnasium on the Ammerman Campus.
- Prior to the 16th, the Registrar’s offices on the Ammerman and Michael J. Grant campuses, will be accepting donations ranging from $12 to $32 for logo apparel such as tee-shirts, hoodies, hats and beanies, sweatshirts and running jackets.
- In lieu of admission, donations will be accepted at the door on the night of the event (10/16) or can be mailed in advance as follows: Checks should be made payable to the to the Suffolk Community College Association and mailed to Joseph Kosina, Athletics Office, Brookhaven Gymnasium, 533 College Road in Selden, NY 11784. Donations are tax deductible. As part of the evening’s fundraising, the Athletics Department will also hold a gift basket raffle.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Side-Out Foundation, which was established in 2004 to unite players and coaches to work toward the common goal of advancing breast cancer awareness, education and patient services. Through various events, the Side-Out Foundation raises funds to donate toorganizations that support the ideal of a cancer-free world.
