U.S. Senator Charles Schumer has urged those who work in public sector and non-profit organizations to use a government program designed to help them manage their student loan debt, and in some cases, forgive the debt.  The Senator stated that the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program is underutilized and called on educators to raise awareness regarding the benefits available.

Public teachers, health workers and government employees should take advantage of this opportunity.  Under the College Cost Reduction and Access Act, unpaid student loan balances, including principal and interest, may qualify to be erased after 10 years of public service.
